Costly errors entertainers make on social media – Mayowa Adenekan, Talent Manager

Mayowa Adenekan a Nigerian talent manager and public relations expert has opened up on mistakes celebrities make on social media. The Soil Science graduate of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) who is currently the manager to actress, Matilda Lambert is also the publicist to media personalities, VJ Adams and Kiekie.

According to him:”Where Nigerian celebrities are getting it wrong on social media includes wrong timing of tweets and post, the idea of wanting to manage your social media handles yourself and wrong branding.

“In the same vein, another series of mistakes they make on social media include trying to communicate with absolutely everyone. Especially those who have a large fan base. They think they are supposed to talk to or connect with everyone.”

“The only way is to define and network with your core followers through strategic marketing that will allow you focus on your career”.

Adenekan who went on to bag a degree in Mass Communication from ESTG University in Benin Republic, also opened up on why talent managers decline working with upcoming artistes.

“Most talent managers decline working with upcoming acts because such artistes don’t get enough mainstream publicity.
However, from my experience working with Kiekie as her Publicity Manager, I have come to the realization that one of the keys to making a successful artiste as a talent manager is believing in the talent you work with. When you believe in his/her craft, it’s easier to sell the brand to anyone”.

The talent manager also urged celebrities to let go of a strategy that is no longer working for them.

“Celebrities should learn to let go of a strategy when it is not working. They should be willing to go the extra mile for their careers. They need a fresh perspective about their career from an expert who knows a lot about the business and marketing”.
