I woke up today getting a mail from Adekunle Gold. In the newsletter, the singer announced his new music video, a song he collaborated on with his wife, Simi.

Adekunle Gold has millions of followers on Instagram, but he isn’t banking on only Instagram to push his brand. The singer is also leveraging on other marketing tools to push his brand.

I know a  lot of content creators and entrepreneurs who will become  irrelevant  whenever Instagram decides to shut down because  their business model is dependent on Instagram for survival.

While it is good to leverage on Instagram, It is also good to  build a brand that is not Instagram dependent.

So what must you do?

  1. Embrace email marketing

The importance of email marketing cannot be over emphasized.

According to Snap, a marketing agency:” Email marketing has become smarter in recent years thanks to the innovative processes of targeting and segmenting contacts, which allows businesses to quickly and efficiently send personalized marketing materials to specific audiences”.

Over half of the planet (3.8 billion people) used email in 2018, and that’s not changing any time soon. In fact, leading studies predict that there will be 4.2 billion email users by the end of 2022.

2.You need a website

Instagram is a rented space, having a website allows you to have an internet presence and market your business online. By building a website, you are giving your business the opportunity to tell consumers why they should trust you and the testimonials and facts to back up those opportunities. Believe it or not, most people will search the internet for a product or service before the purchase to check the credibility first.

  1. Leverage on a visibility platform

A visibility platform is a medium that allows you to be seen, known and heard. You can decide to start a podcast, write for a magazine/newspaper,start a radio show, become a guest blogger etc. This visibility platform is the bullet proof you need in order not to make your business Instagram dependent.

You should have an email list, a functioning website and a trusted visibility platform. That’s the way to go
